Professional Information

Assatta was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 2020 and is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts of South Carolina. She practices primarily in the area of school and education law and works with school districts across South Carolina on a wide range of legal issues affecting district operations.

Prior to joining the firm, Assatta’s practice focused on public finance matters, including bond-related transactions and financing matters involving school districts and other public entities. That experience informs her understanding of the financial and operational considerations facing public school districts.

Assatta also served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable DeAndrea Gist Benjamin of the Fifth Judicial Circuit, where she worked on civil and criminal matters and supported the court’s operations.

Practice Areas

Assatta works in all major areas of school law. Her practice includes student matters, employment-related issues, special education issues, policy development, and litigation support. She works with school districts on student discipline and due process matters, employment-related concerns, and compliance with state and federal law.

Assatta has experience assisting school districts in responding to administrative complaints, including matters involving the EEOC, and regularly provides legal research, analysis, and drafting support in connection with litigation and other legal matters. She also provides guidance to school districts aimed at addressing potential legal issues and minimizing the risk of litigation.

Personal Background

Assatta is a proud graduate of Richland School District One schools. She is a member of the Columbia (SC) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
