Professional Information

Kathy was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 1992. While in law school, she was a member of the Moot Court Bar. Kathy is a member of the NSBA Council of School Attorneys, and the South Carolina Council of School Attorneys. Kathy is also a member of the John Belton O’Neall Inn of Court. Kathy has practiced with the firm since her graduation from law school in 1992. Kathy is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts of South Carolina and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Practice Areas

Kathy works in all areas of school law, with an emphasis on employment matters, board/superintendent evaluations, student matters, special education issues, policy development, and all types of litigation.

Kathy provides ongoing counsel in all types of employment matters. She handles many administrative complaints filed by employees with the EEOC and SCHAC. She has handled many administrative hearings before school boards involving teachers. She has handled several special education administrative due process hearings. She assists school districts in handling complaints filed with the Office for Civil Rights. Kathy lectures frequently and provides in-service training for administrators and teachers in many subjects, including employment matters, sexual harassment, student bullying, social networking, special education, and student constitutional issues.

Personal Background

Kathy graduated from Lexington-Richland School District Five schools.  She is married and has two children who are graduates of Lexington-Richland School District Five.  Kathy is a member of the District 5 Foundation.  She previously served on the School Improvement Council for Irmo Elementary School and Irmo High School.  She is from a family of educators.
